Tonto's Tavern:
Good Food, Health History & Reparations for Native Americans
Our restaurants are Rallying Points, that supports Activism, especially Native Americans'.
And History: SpotLighting Native Americans' mistreat at every turn.
The victors (even when lacking honor) write history.
Our schools bury history.
Native American foods varied across North America,
from the lush greenlands of both coasts,
to the arid desert plains some cultures found to their tastes.
Then there are the forced adaptations from forced "relocations".
Our menu fluctuates for many Seasonal foods,
as did many cultures, as they literally followed their food.
Many more settled areas & stabilized their lives with their own farmlands to supplement game.
Our Current menu: (JPG, *not* pdf insert)

Most of our tastier plant life comes from South America;
many were brought up from the Shawnee,
as they decided the Aztecs' & Mayans' blood lust was
a bit hard on nomadic farmers, forced to become warriors.
Tomatoes, sweet potatoes, squash
&... our favorite "well traveled" food....
(which had proven invaluable to armies
.... which "march on their stomachs..")
Irish potatoes.... aren't *too* Irish;
A Spanish Conquistador ship, with gold & plant samplings,
was caught in a hurricane & was ripped apart.
Potatoes.... float.
So, curiuosty for this floating, sea-salt-watered fortune....
found it loved Irish soil... & whatever composes Blarney...
One man to comment on the butchering of the buffalo by women, was Father Louis Hennepin, a missionary. He observed in the 1600's that women of the Miami tribe were more than able to handle the chore when he noted:
'These women are so lusty and strong, that they carry on their Back two or three hundred weight, besides their Children, and notwithstanding that Burthen (burden), they run as swiftly as any of our Soldiers with their Arms.'
